Hayes Rutherford B. Was the 19th President of the United States, serving from 1877 to 1881. He was known for his commitment to civil service reform and efforts to reconcile the North and South after the Civil War. Hayes also oversaw the end of Reconstruction in the South, which led to increased segregation and disenfranchisement of African Americans. Despite facing a contentious election in which he lost the popular vote but won through a controversial electoral commission decision, Hayes worked to promote unity and healing in a divided nation. His administration focused on economic issues such as currency reform and civil rights for African Americans. Hayes' presidency was marked by his integrity and dedication to public service, earning him respect from both political parties. After leaving office, he continued his advocacy for education and civil rights until his death in 1893.
