Helmut Fath: A Sidecar Racing Legend When it comes to sidecar racing, one name that stands out is Helmut Fath. Born in 1929, this German racer made a significant impact on the sport during his career. Fath's partnership with Wolfgang Kalauch was truly remarkable. Together, they competed in the URS 1968 500 Sidecar TT race and showcased their exceptional skills and teamwork. Their dedication and determination were evident as they pushed themselves to the limit. But this wasn't their only successful venture. In previous years, Fath had teamed up with Loni Neussner & Dieter Hess (BMW), Alan Young & Cairncross, R Q, Fritz Rudolph (BMW), Alfred Wohlgemuth (BMW), Eric Walker & Jim Billington (WRB Triumph) - each time leaving an indelible mark on the track. One of their most memorable performances came in the 1958 Sidecar TT race when Fath partnered with Fritz Rudolph (BMW). The duo displayed unparalleled speed and precision throughout the competition. Their success continued into subsequent years as well. In both 1967 and 1968 Sidecar TT races, Fath joined forces once again with Wolfgang Kalauch under URS team colors. These races further solidified their status as a force to be reckoned with in sidecar racing history. The BMW connection also played a crucial role in Fath's career. His collaboration with Alfred Wohlgemuth yielded impressive results not only in the 1959 but also in the highly competitive 1960 Sidecar TT races. Helmut Fath's passion for sidecar racing was unmatched. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his craft and left an enduring legacy within motorsport circles worldwide.
