Henry H. Bennett was a prolific creator, capturing moments in history and scenes of everyday life with his camera lens. His work ranged from documenting the Golgotha and the Crucifixion in 1893 to depicting General W. H. L. Wallace's 2nd Division of the Army of the Tenn in 1887. One of his notable photographs captured General Grant giving orders to General McPherson, showcasing his ability to freeze significant moments for eternity. In another image, he immortalized the Crescent Regiment of New Orleans bravely standing their ground in the infamous "Hornets Nest" battle. Bennett's talent extended beyond war photography; he also had an eye for capturing beauty and artistry. He skillfully photographed The Pilot, a stunning portrayal that showcased both technical prowess and artistic sensibility. Nature was another subject close to Bennett's heart as seen through his photograph titled Devils Foot Ball near the Deep Fill. This captivating image transported viewers into nature's realm, evoking awe and wonder at its raw power. Bennett also explored different landscapes throughout his career, such as Cold Water Canon-looking down from near the Jug in 1870/1908 or Along the Rocks Opposite Berrys Landing in 1903. These images revealed his versatility as a photographer who could capture both grand vistas and intimate details with equal finesse. Not limited by genre or subject matter, Bennett even ventured into documenting historical events like Waiting for the Royal family at entrance to Palace between 1886-88 – an intriguing glimpse into society during that time period. In addition to these diverse subjects, Bennett turned his lens towards sculptures like Venus de Medici and Herkales displayed at Art Institute in 1893 – demonstrating an appreciation for classical art forms alongside contemporary photography. Finally, Unloading Coal taken between 1880-89 showed Bennett's ability to find beauty even within mundane activities – transforming something ordinary into a visually captivating moment. Henry H.
