Henry Hamilton Bennett was a prolific creator, capturing moments in history through his lens. In 1893, he immortalized Golgotha and the Crucifixion, a powerful image that evokes deep emotions. Another masterpiece from Bennett's collection is Gen. W. H. L. Wallace's portrait, taken in 1887 during his service with the Army of the Tenn. Bennett also had an eye for significant events, such as Gen. Grant giving orders to Gen. McPherson in 1887 - a moment frozen in time forever. The Crescent Regt. Of New Orleans found themselves trapped in the infamous "Hornets Nest" that same year, and Bennett managed to capture their bravery amidst chaos. The First Ark Con Regt charging into battle at the "Hornets Nest" showcases both their courage and Bennett's ability to seize fleeting moments of action on film. In 1886, Bennett turned his attention towards nature with "The Pilot, " showcasing his versatility as an artist beyond war photography. He further explored natural wonders like Devils Foot Ball near Deep Fill (1903) and Cold Water Canon seen from near the Jug (1870/1908). Bennett's talent extended beyond documenting historical events; he also captured scenes of everyday life like unloading coal (1880/89), revealing the grittier side of society. Not limited to American subjects alone, Bennett photographed Waiting for the Royal family at entrance to Palace (1886/88), demonstrating his international reach as well. Art enthusiasts will appreciate Venus de Medici and Herkales at Art Institute (1893), where classical sculptures come alive through Bennett's lens.
