Homere, the legendary Greek poet, continues to captivate us with his timeless tales of heroes and gods. In Achilles Lamenting the Death of Patroclus, we witness the heart-wrenching sorrow of a warrior mourning his fallen comrade. The emotions depicted in this pen and ink drawing from 1760-63 are palpable, reminding us of the human cost of war. In Inferno, Canto 4, Homere himself takes center stage as he resides in Limbo alongside other great poets and heroes. This powerful image transports us to a realm where creativity and valor intertwine. The Odyssee d'Homere offers further glimpses into Homer's epic world. In Song VII: Ulysses reached the palace of Alcinoos, we witness a tender moment as Alcinoos kisses the hands and knees of Queen Arete, and is a testament to their respect for one another and their shared love for hospitality. Another illustration by Antoine Calbet brings Helen to life in Chant IV: Helene surrounded by her following. Her beauty radiates through Calbet's brushstrokes as she commands attention amidst her devoted servants. Chant XII presents an enchanting scene from Odyssey by Homer: Odysseus encounters sirens whose captivating song lures sailors towards treacherous rocks. We can almost hear their haunting melody echoing through time. Ulysses disguised as a beggar swears Eurycleia to secrecy in Singing 19 – an intense moment filled with suspense that showcases Odysseus' cunning nature. Athena aids our hero once again in Song VII: Odyssey by Homer: Odysseus helped by Athena disguised as a young girl arrives at Alcinoos' palace. This striking illustration captures both Athena's divine presence and Ulysses' determination on his journey home. Representations of Aurora grace Chant V – a visual feast of colors and light that pays homage to the goddess of dawn.
