The Hypogeum, located in the Tierradentro Archaeological Park in Colombia, is a fascinating underground burial site that holds secrets of ancient civilizations. One of its notable features is the Tomb of Rekhmire, adorned with mesmerizing mural paintings depicting scenes from a bygone era. But the wonders of they are not limited to Colombia alone. The Sleeping Lady from the Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni on Malta showcases intricate craftsmanship and offers a glimpse into the beliefs and rituals practiced by our ancestors. Traveling further east, we find ourselves in New Caledonia's Isle of Pines, where the Hypogeum of Toupo stands as an architectural marvel. Its design captivates visitors who admire its beauty and wonder about its purpose. Moving back in time to 1833, we encounter an etching depicting "The enclosure of wild beasts for the Colosseum. " This artwork reminds us that hypogeums were not only used for burials but also served various other functions throughout history. Etruscan sarcophagi and sepulchres take center stage as well. Plate 7 from Part I showcases their grandeur and provides insight into Etruscan culture and burial practices. Beni-Hacan's Architecture Hypogeenne transports us to tombs like those belonging to Amonei or Nevothph. These structures highlight different architectural styles employed across regions and eras. El-Kab's Tombeau de Phapé adds another layer to our understanding by showcasing unique elements found within hypogea architecture. Finally, we come across a captivating photograph capturing the ceiling inside Rome's Chamber of the Hypogeum of Lucina. Taken in 1928 by an unknown creator, it serves as a reminder that these underground spaces continue to intrigue us even today.
