Ian Gemmell is a legendary figure in the world of sidecar racing, with an impressive career spanning several decades. From his early days partnering with Derek Rumble on the Rumble BSA in the 1968 Sidecar TT to his later successes alongside Brian Rostron on various machines, Gemmell has left an indelible mark on the sport. One of his most memorable moments came in 1995 when he teamed up with Rostron once again, this time riding the Winstanley Yamaha at the Sidecar TT. Their partnership proved unbeatable as they clinched victory and etched their names into history. Gemmell's talent and determination were evident throughout his career, as he consistently pushed boundaries and achieved remarkable results. In 1977, he joined forces with Rostron on the Imp for another thrilling ride at the Sidecar TT. Not one to rest on his laurels, Gemmell continued to excel in subsequent years. His collaboration with Des Evans on the Rumble BSA in 1969 showcased their skill and tenacity as they tackled the challenging 750 Sidecar TT. The new millennium brought more triumphs for Gemmell, particularly alongside Bill Crook. Together, they conquered multiple Sidecar TT races aboard Jacobs Starfire machines in 1999 and 2002 while also achieving success on other models like Jacobs in 2000. Throughout it all, Gemmell's partnership with Brian Rostron remained a constant source of strength and achievement. Their victories together aboard Yamaha bikes at various editions of the Sidecar TT - including notable wins in1981 and 1996 - solidified their status as a formidable duo within sidecar racing circles. Ian Gemmell's legacy extends far beyond mere statistics or race results; it lies within his unwavering passion for speed and camaraderie that defined him both on and off track.
