Impressionism, a revolutionary art movement that emerged in the late 19th century, captivated artists and viewers alike with its unique approach to capturing light and atmosphere. The works of renowned artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Edgar Degas showcased their mastery of this style through various subjects and mediums. In "Village Street, Moret-sur-Loing, " painted in 1894 by an unknown artist, we are transported to a quaint village street bathed in soft sunlight. The loose brushstrokes and vibrant colors create a sense of movement and life within the scene. "Boatyard at Saint-Mammes, " an oil on canvas from 1886, depicts the bustling activity of a boatyard along the riverbank. The artist's use of bold brushwork captures the energy of workers going about their daily tasks while reflecting shimmering reflections on the water's surface. One cannot discuss Impressionism without mentioning one of its most iconic paintings - "La Grenouillere. " Created by Claude Monet in 1869, this masterpiece showcases leisurely scenes at a popular riverside resort. Through his skillful use of dappled brushstrokes and vivid colors, Monet transports us into a world filled with joyous laughter and carefree moments. Moving away from traditional painting techniques, Edgar Degas explored different mediums like graphite on tan wove paper in "Madame Lisle and Madame Loubens" (1869-72). This delicate sketch captures two women engaged in conversation with remarkable detail despite its simplicity. Degas also ventured into lithography with "After the Bath III" (1891-1892), where he masterfully portrays female figures drying themselves after bathing. The black lines against cream wove paper evoke sensuality while showcasing Degas' ability to capture fleeting moments effortlessly. Another striking piece is "After the Bath (Woman Drying Her Feet)" from around 1900.
