"Izba: Preserving the Rich Heritage of Traditional Russian Wooden Houses" Step back in time and immerse yourself in the charm of a bygone era with izba, the traditional wooden house that has been an integral part of Russian culture for centuries. Dating back to 1882, these architectural marvels have stood the test of time, serving as a testament to Russia's rich history. One such place where you can witness the beauty of izbas is at the Museum of Wooden Architecture Vitoslavlicy in Veliky. Here, visitors are transported to a world where craftsmanship meets artistry, showcasing various styles and designs that have shaped rural Russia. However, it is important not to forget some dark chapters intertwined with this cultural icon. The engraving depicting "Slaughter of the Jews in Russia" by Gustave Voulquin serves as a somber reminder of past atrocities that occurred within these very walls. Yet amidst historical turmoil, there were moments captured on paper like "Izba in Domovichi, " a delicate pastel artwork from 1925 or "Isba, " an etching published in 1803. These pieces allow us glimpses into everyday life within these cozy abodes – simple yet filled with warmth and character. The interior view reveals how families made use of limited space while preserving their traditions. From rustic furnishings to intricately painted walls adorned with folk motifs, every detail tells a story passed down through generations. Traveling further back in time brings us to an enchanting scene depicted in "The Princess and the Frog. " This lithograph from c. 1899 captures fairy tales brought to life within these humble dwellings – where magic was believed to exist alongside reality. Artists like Karl Ivanovich Kolmann and Kirill Vikentievich Lemoch immortalized village life through their masterful brushstrokes.
