Javlensky, Alexei von (1864-1941), was a Russian expressionist artist known for his captivating and thought-provoking works. His abstract head pieces, such as "Abstract Head" from 1933, showcase his ability to capture the essence of a subject in a unique and unconventional way. In "Small house before the bushes (French landscape)" created in 1906, Javlensky transports us to a serene countryside setting with its simplicity and charm. The artist's fascination with human form is evident in his piece "Small head" from around 1922. Through bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors, he brings life to this seemingly simple composition. In "Meditation" from 1935, Javlensky invites us into the world of introspection and inner peace. One cannot help but be captivated by the ethereal beauty of "Great Meditation: Autumn Tenderness" painted in 1936. In contrast to these introspective pieces are Javlensky's depictions of everyday life like the striking portrait titled "Peasant, " created around 1912. This work showcases his ability to capture raw emotion while celebrating ordinary people. Javlensky's landscapes also hold great allure; one example being "Small house in front of bushes" painted circa 1907 where he skillfully captures nature's harmony with man-made structures. Among his more spiritual creations is the enigmatic masterpiece called "Abstract Head: The Guardian Angel. " Painted in 1933, it invites contemplation on themes beyond our physical realm.
