"Judas Iscariot: The Infamous Betrayer in Art and History" Judas Iscariot, forever etched in history as the man who betrayed Jesus Christ, has been a subject of fascination for centuries. In the iconic painting "The Last Supper" by Ugolino da Siena, Judas sits among the disciples, his face filled with treachery. From biblical accounts to artistic interpretations, Judas' role is explored through various mediums. Engravings depict him standing before the Sanhedrim, priests and high-priests accusing him of betrayal. A controversial 1909 antisemitic cartoon titled "Everything must pay off" portrays Judas amidst a cosmopolitan bazaar where thirty deniers seal his fate. In Russian iconography, a devil accompanies Judas Iscariot in an intricate 19th-century icon from Izborsk. This haunting image symbolizes his descent into darkness and eternal damnation. Jesus himself foretold this betrayal during their final meal together when he uttered the words: "One of you that eateth with me shall betray me. " Artists have captured this poignant moment on canvas throughout history; one such example is "The Judas Kiss, " an oil painting from 1911 that showcases the ultimate act of betrayal. Engravings and colored engravings further immortalize this infamous event - depicting Judas actively betraying Jesus Christ or being arrested alongside Him. These artworks serve as reminders of human frailty and moral choices that shape our destinies. Even beyond religious artistry lies another intriguing depiction - Derick Baegert's oil painting titled "Sainte Veronique et un groupe de chevaliers. " Within its complex composition lies a scene portraying both Saint Veronica's encounter with Jesus carrying His cross and the tragic suicide nearby – capturing contrasting moments within Christian narrative.
