Jules-Ferdinand Jacquemart was a French artist who lived from 1837 to 1880. He was known for his exquisite etchings and creations in various mediums. In 1863, he created the frontispiece for the Society of Etchers, showcasing his talent and attention to detail. One of his notable works is the Lapis Lazuli Cup, crafted in 1868. This piece demonstrates Jacquemart's mastery in creating intricate designs with precious materials. Another remarkable creation is the Oriental Cup Made from Agate, also made in 1868. The cup showcases both Jacquemart's artistic skill and appreciation for exotic aesthetics. Jacquemart's art often depicted scenes of country houses nestled at the foot of majestic mountains or high mountain ranges. His etching titled "City Country ca 1865" captures this juxtaposition beautifully on a small sheet measuring only 5½ x 8⅛ inches. The artist also explored different subjects through his etchings. In one work, he portrayed five pieces of china with great precision and delicacy. Another piece called "Plantes de Serre" showcases botanical illustrations captured through an etching technique. Jacquemart was not limited to original compositions; he also recreated famous artworks by other artists such as Francisco de Goya and Jan van de Cappelle. His rendition of a Spanish scene after Goya reflects his ability to capture the essence and style of another masterful painter.
