Karlis Huns: A 19th Century Ethnographer's Journey (1862) - Karlis Huns was a prolific ethnographer who captured the essence of various ethnic groups across the Russian Empire. From the Finns of St. Petersburg province, including the Ayramoiset and Savakot, to the Crimean Tatars and their Mullah, Huns documented the lives of the Great Russians in the central provinces, the Izhorians, and the Yakuts from the Lena region. He also depicted the Koloshi, Aleuts, Kalmyks, Livonians from Irbene and Neiraden, Transbaikal Buryats, Georgians, and Karaites, providing a vibrant and detailed record of their cultures and traditions. Through his lens, we gain a unique insight into the rich diversity of the Russian Empire during this period.
