"Capturing the Majesty: King Louis Philippe, The French Monarch" Step into history as we explore the life and reign of King Louis Philippe I, known as the "King of the French. " From his grand carriage in Queen Victoria's coronation parade to his daring escape through a grille surrounded by his five sons, this monarch's story is one of resilience and intrigue. In 1830, an assassination attempt by Joseph Fieschi shook the foundations of Louis Philippe's rule. Yet, undeterred, he took an oath on the constitution before the chambers just days later. This defining moment showcased his commitment to upholding democratic principles during a time of political turmoil. Beyond politics, Louis Philippe had a taste for adventure. In 1840, he embarked on a journey along Lapland's Muonio River with none other than the Duke of Orleans. Their expedition captured imaginations worldwide and highlighted their thirst for exploration. The opulence surrounding Louis Philippe was evident at every turn. Whether it was indulging in lavish banquets at St. Georges Hall or residing in Orleans House in Twickenham – once his regal abode – he epitomized grandeur and refinement. Portraits immortalize him as His Majesty King Louis Philippe – dignified yet approachable. One such portrait by Stephen Sly captures both his regal stature and warm demeanor that endeared him to many. His visit to Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle further solidified diplomatic ties between France and Britain while showcasing their mutual respect for each other's nations. As October 1844 dawned upon Portsmouth Harbor, anticipation filled the air with news of King Louis Philippe's arrival aboard The Gomer Steamer. Crowds gathered eagerly to catch a glimpse of this esteemed ruler who had left an indelible mark on European history. Even amidst technological advancements like railways entering mainstream society, our king remained connected with progress by embracing modernity himself—captured vividly as he entered the railway station with an air of regal grace.
