"Kruchenykh: The Revolutionary Force Behind Victory over the Sun" Aleksei Kruchenykh, a prominent figure in the Russian avant-garde movement, played a pivotal role in shaping the groundbreaking opera "Victory over the sun. " Collaborating with artists such as David Burliuk, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Nikolai Burliuk, and Benedikt Livshits, Kruchenykh pushed boundaries and challenged traditional artistic norms. In 1913, alongside Mikhail Matyushin and Kazimir Malevich, Kruchenykh created set designs that defied conventional aesthetics. Their collaboration birthed an innovative visual language that would later become synonymous with the Futurist movement. These designs laid the foundation for what would be known as "Victory over the sun. " Malevich's costume designs further enhanced Kruchenykh's vision for the opera. From Ruffians to Choristers and Gravediggers, each character was brought to life through Malevich's bold strokes and geometric forms. His Futurist Strongman design exuded strength and dynamism while challenging societal norms of masculinity. Olga Vladimirovna Rozanova contributed her artistic prowess by illustrating Kruchenykh's book "The War" in 1916. Her illustrations captured both the chaos and beauty of war through abstract shapes and vibrant colors. El Lissitzky also left his mark on "Victory over the sun, " creating figurines like The Cowards and Old Resident. Lissitzky's sculptures embodied a sense of surrealism while reflecting themes of disillusionment prevalent during that era. Through their collective efforts under Kruchenykh's guidance, these artists revolutionized not only theatrical production but also society itself. They shattered conventions by embracing abstractionism, rejecting realism in favor of expressing emotions through form and color. Kruchenykh’s legacy lives on as one of Russia’s most influential avant-garde poets and playwrights.
