"Lacing: A Fashionable Art Through the Ages" From the elegant Bathing Belle on Pier in her striped bathing costume to the Pretty Parisian Girl lacing up her brown leather boots, it has been an integral part of fashion for centuries. Seaside Fashions in 1878 showcased the beauty of laced garments, while a man in tight stays from 1788 demonstrated how even men embraced this trend. In 1915, a pinafore dress with cord and tassel lacing at the sides took center stage, accentuating its loose fitting bodice and low waistline. This Medici style collar added a touch of sophistication to this ensemble worn over a light-weight blouse. Looking further back into history, corsets and stays adorned with satin, linen, and silk ribbon were alluring pieces that shaped women's silhouettes during the early 17th century. These garments not only emphasized their figures but also symbolized societal norms and ideals. Fast forward to 1935 when Gossard underwear advertised their innovative designs featuring intricate lacework. Lingerie became more than just undergarments; it became an expression of femininity and sensuality. Beyond fashion lies another realm where lacing takes flight - pigeons. Varieties of Ice Pigeons showcased their fancy breed feathers as they gracefully strutted around with elegance akin to delicate lace patterns. Through these glimpses into history, we see that lacing is not merely about tightening or fastening clothes; it is an art form that transcends time. Whether adorning beachwear or defining waistlines through corsets, it has always played a significant role in shaping our perception of beauty and style throughout different eras.
