In Pieter Bruegh's painting, "The Strife of Lent with Shrovetide, " a lanky figure can be seen striding along the profile of a hill on a windy day. His elongated frame seems to blend seamlessly with the gusts of wind that whip through the landscape. At Kelsey's or Guard Day at St James's, heroes are recruiting and amidst the bustling crowd stands a lanky individual, towering above others. With an air of confidence and determination, he catches everyone's attention. In "English Fairy Tales, " there is a moment where luck smiles upon someone as they exclaim, "Well. I am in luck. " A lanky character adds charm to this whimsical tale, bringing their unique presence into play. "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" introduces us to another lanky character who saunters along in the twilight. As darkness descends upon Sleepy Hollow, his slender silhouette blends with eerie shadows cast by moonlight. In "People I Have Met: The Chaperon, " an engraving captures various personalities encountered throughout life. Among them is a lanky figure reciting epitaphs on tombstones for amusement. Their tall stature adds an intriguing element to this peculiar pastime. Henry Davison's portrait from 1880 portrays him as a distinguished gentleman with refined features and a slightly lanky build. His posture exudes elegance while his height commands attention. A playful English Springer named Fall leaps gracefully through fields in pursuit of adventure. Despite being lean and long-limbed, Fall showcases agility and athleticism that defy expectations associated with their lankiness. Once again in "English Fairy Tales, " we encounter someone who chuckles gleefully exclaiming, "Well. I am in luck. " This time depicted in vibrant color lithography from 1922—a mischievous grin adorns the face of our charmingly thin protagonist. Lastly, we revisit "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" in a 1928 depiction.
