Discover the rich history of Le Quartier de l'Arsenal through captivating engravings. Step back in time and explore Maison de Beaumarchais, a magnificent residence on Boulevard Beaumarchais that was unfortunately demolished in 1818. Take a glimpse at La Bastille from the Ville side, as depicted in an engraving from Du Cerceau's plan of 1575. Marvel at Hotel de Lesdiguieres, formerly known as Hotel Zamet, located on Rue de la Cerisaie. Although it was sadly demolished in 1877, its grandeur can still be appreciated through an enchanting engraving. Another lost gem is the Maison du XVIe siècle on Rue Saint-Paul No. 39, which met its fate in 1832 but lives on through historical illustrations. Transport yourself to the early fifteenth century with a view of Hôtel de Saint-Paul and Le Quartier de l'Arsenal captured beautifully in an engraving found in Planche VI. Witness the transformation of Arc de Pierre or Porte Saint-Antoine by Blondel in 1672 before its unfortunate demolition in 1788. Immerse yourself further into Le Quartier de l'Arsenal's past with depictions of L'Arsenal et son magasin à poudre during the eighteenth century, as seen from Rue Contrescarpe. Explore Hôtel du Maine or De Mayenne (later known as Hôtel d'Ormesson), constructed by Du Cerceau where Maison du Pont-Perrin and Hôtel du Petit-Musc once stood at the corner of Rue Saint-Antoine and Rue du Petit-Musc. Travel back to 1552 with a facsimile plan by Truschet showcasing Le Quartier Saint-Paul's layout during that era.
