The cutter Shamrock also left a lasting impression as it triumphantly beat upwind, leaving spectators in awe of its speed and skill. The J-Class yachts Shamrock V and Britannia took center stage in 1934, captivating audiences with their beauty and grace. Crafted by Kirk & Sons of Cowes, these vessels were a testament to Sir Thomas Johnstone Lipton's passion for sailing. Speaking of Sir Thomas himself - a British grocer turned yachtsman - his dedication to both business and sport was truly remarkable. In 1926, artist Alick P F Ritchie captured his essence perfectly in a portrait that showcased his determination and love for the sea.
