Mornington Lockett: A Legacy in Art and Sports From the serene waters of Dorking's Watermill in May 2000, captured by artist Brian O Connor, to the lively jazz scene at The Fairway in Welwyn Garden City in 1992, Mornington Lockett's life has been a beautiful blend of creativity and music. But his legacy reaches far beyond the arts. In an earlier era, Mornington Lockett's name was synonymous with polo. Boys at Bradstock Lockett Hospital Home in Southport knew him as their beloved teammate and friend. In 1913, the England and America polo teams squared off in a fierce competition, with Mornington Lockett contributing to England's historic victory in 1914. The team's arrival in the USA that same year marked the beginning of an unforgettable chapter in international sports history. Fast forward to the 21st century, Mornington Lockett's artistic side came to light, with collaborations at the Bulls Head in Barnes, London, in 2014, and the Braithwaite Hall in Croydon, London, in 2008. Brian O Connor's portraits of Mornington Lockett playing tenor saxophone at The Fairway and at Watermill Dorking serve as a testament to his enduring passion for art and music. Mornington Lockett's story is a testament to the power of perseverance, creativity, and the indelible mark one can leave on both the arts and sports worlds.
