"Louis XV: The Reign of a Controversial Monarch" In 1710, Louis XV was born into a world that would soon be shaped by his rule. As fate would have it, he stood by the deathbed of his great-grandfather, Louis XIV, bidding farewell to the Sun King who had reigned for over seven decades. Ascending to the throne at just five years old after the death of Louis XIV in 1715, young Louis XV faced immense challenges as he navigated through a tumultuous era in French history. Despite being surrounded by advisors and courtiers, he struggled to establish himself as a strong ruler during his early years. The lavishness and opulence associated with the court of Louis XV is captured in various representations from that time. Engravings depict scenes such as "Jeu du roi, " where nobles gathered for games at court, and masquerades filled with intrigue and mystery. However, it wasn't all frivolity for this monarch. Seeking divine intervention for an heir to secure his lineage, Queen Mary Leszczynska ordered Fr Archangel of St Joseph to visit Saint Anne's church on her behalf. This act demonstrates both the religious piety prevalent during this period and the pressures faced by royal couples to produce an heir. Portraits immortalize Louis XV's image throughout different stages of his life - from him depicted as Jupiter in marble sculpture to oil paintings capturing him with two beloved dogs or mounted on horseback. These artworks provide glimpses into both his public persona and personal interests. The influence of prominent figures like Voltaire also played a role during this reign. Depictions show Voltaire being received at Elysian Fields while historical figures such as Henri IV and Peter I stand in the background alongside previous kings - including Louis XIV himself - highlighting their lasting impact on French society. Beyond artistry lies intricate craftsmanship showcased through objects associated with Louis XV's reign. A clock built by P.
