Lucius Verus, the Roman Emperor who ruled alongside Marcus Aurelius during the 2nd century AD, is depicted in various forms of art and currency that have survived through time. One such portrayal is a marble portrait found in the antiquary market, showcasing his regal features and commanding presence. Another bust made from marble further captures his likeness, allowing us to glimpse into the face of this historical figure. Coins minted during Lucius Verus' reign also provide insight into his image as an emperor. An aureus coin from December 163-December 164 portrays him with authority and dignity, while a sestertius coin created by an unknown artist between 161-180 showcases either Marcus Aurelius or Lucius Verus himself. An engraving depicting they are be found on a bust located in the Capitol, emphasizing his importance within ancient Rome's political landscape. Additionally, another engraving shows him holding a Figure of Victory at Vatican's Braccio Nuovo museum. The artistic representations continue with classical sculptures crafted during ancient Rome's era. A second-century AD bust sculpted by artists skilled in Ancient Roman artistry immortalizes Lucius Verus' visage for generations to come. Not only was he remembered individually but also through his relationship with others; one such example being a portrait bust of Lucilla - wife of Emperor Lucius Verus - which serves as evidence of their union and shared power. These various depictions offer glimpses into the life and legacy – an influential ruler whose impact on history continues to captivate our imagination even centuries later.
