Madame Scarron, also known as Madame de Maintenon, was a remarkable woman who played a significant role in the court of Louis XIV. Born Francoise d'Aubigne in 1635, she endured a difficult childhood and early adulthood before finding herself as the trusted confidante and eventual wife of the Sun King. In her engraving with her Ladies in Waiting, we see Madame de Maintenon surrounded by women who were loyal to her. This image captures her influence and power within the royal court. Another engraving depicts her marriage to Louis XIV, showcasing their union that lasted until his death. The lithograph of Scarron from 1830 portrays her earlier years when she was married to Paul Scarron. Despite being widowed at a young age, she never lost her spirit or determination. Her resilience is evident in this portrait. Moving forward in time, an anonymous artist captured Madame de Maintenon's essence in a portrait from around 1670. The painting exudes elegance and sophistication while highlighting her intelligence and grace. The Chateau de Maintenon holds great significance for Madame Scarron as it became one of her most cherished residences after marrying Louis XIV secretly there. The view from both the entrance and garden showcases its grandeur during the 17th century. Another intriguing depiction shows Peter the Great visiting Madame de Maintenon in 1717. This visit symbolizes not only their friendship but also highlights how influential she had become on an international scale. A fascinating aspect of Madame de Maintenon's life is revealed through an anonymous painting where she disguises herself as a monk around 1690. This act demonstrates both wit and resourcefulness - qualities that defined much of her life. An endearing portrayal by Elle captures Francoise d'Aubigne with her niece, emphasizing familial bonds amidst all the grandeur associated with royalty.
