"Maoist: A Revolutionary Ideology that Shaped China's History" The power of Mao Zedong's ideology reverberated through the vibrant posters of 1970s China. In one such poster, emblazoned with bold characters, "Don't Depend on the Gods, " peasants were encouraged to embrace self-sufficiency. This call for independence echoed Mao Tse-tung's vision during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, as depicted in another poster from 1973 where he greeted Red Guards in Tiananmen Square. Viet Chu captured the curiosity surrounding Maoism in his artwork aptly titled "The Curious Maoist. " It encapsulated a movement that began when Chairman Mao proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China—a pivotal moment etched into history. His influence extended beyond borders as he addressed international Communist conferences and ignited revolutionary fervor. Land reform played a crucial role in shaping Communist China, symbolized by images depicting official documents burning amidst Shanghai's flames. These actions aimed to reshape society and empower those who had long been oppressed. Even before achieving victory, we find glimpses of an ambitious leader reviewing tanks and commanding troops—Mao Zedong was determined to transform his nation. From northern Shensi to Yenan/Yan'an caves, photographs capture moments frozen in time showcasing Mao Zedong's resilience and unwavering spirit. Whether writing his influential work "On Protracted War" or reviewing his army from Beijing's iconic Tiananmen Gate, these snapshots reveal a man driven by conviction. Members of the Chinese People's Liberation Army distributing Communist literature exemplify how this ideology permeated every aspect of life under Maoist rule. The red book became an emblematic symbol representing loyalty and devotion to Chairman Mao. Maoism left an indelible mark on Chinese history—a complex tapestry woven with revolutionaries' dreams and aspirations for equality and progress.
