In the historic town of Lostwithiel, Cornwall, during the English Civil War Society's events in April 1992, they were donned with pride as new mayors were installed. The tradition continued in Fowey, Cornwall, during Mayor Makings in May 1991, 1992, and 1994. These ornate garments, steeped in history, were also worn by Henry Cruger, the Mayor of Bristol and Master of The Merchant Venturers Society, during a visit to Lostwithiel in November 1991. The Mayoral robes, a symbol of authority and tradition, were also worn during Remembrance Day ceremonies in Lostwithiel in 1991. A glimpse into the past, these robes echo the grandeur of bygone eras, as seen when the Prince of Wales inspected an international telephone exchange while wearing one in an undated photograph. Sir Robert Walter Carden, 1st Baronet, is depicted in a lithograph wearing similar mayoral robes, further emphasizing their historical significance.
