"Mosaique: A Glimpse into Gallo Roman Art and History" Step back in time to the Gallo Roman era with these stunning mosaics. Dating back to the end of the 2nd century and beginning of the 3rd century after JC, these intricate works of art provide a window into ancient life. One mosaic, found in Saint-Romain-en-Gal (Rhone) and housed at the National Museum of Archeology in Saint Germain en Laye, depicts a rustic calendar. This captivating piece showcases scenes such as treading grapes in a vat, an oil press, and even an allegory about summer featuring a majestic lion. Another remarkable find is located at Aracoeli. The chromolitho captures an interior view of the nave adorned with mosaics depicting the Procession of the Martyrs. These black-and-white photographs transport us to this sacred space where we can imagine witnessing this solemn procession. The Regne de Charlemagne also left its mark through a magnificent engraving inspired by a mosaic from that period. This artwork from VIII Siecle pays homage to Charlemagne's reign and serves as a testament to his influence on art during that time. Reims holds another treasure discovered on November 3rd, 1860 - Mosaique des Promenades. This engraving immortalizes this significant find for posterity. Dionysus takes center stage in yet another mosaic dating back to around c. 220AD. The god of wine is depicted with exquisite detail, showcasing both artistic skill and reverence for ancient mythology. Lastly, we return once again to the nave adorned with mosaics depicting not only the Procession of Martyrs but also honoring Virgin Martyrs. These monochrome photographs capture moments frozen in time within this sacred space. Each mosaic tells its own unique story while collectively offering glimpses into Gallo Roman culture and history.
