Mount Meru, standing tall and majestic in the Kilimanjaro National Park of Tanzania, is a sight to behold. As I gazed upon its grandeur, a porter stood proudly with Mount Meru in the background, symbolizing the strength and resilience of this natural wonder. For climbers embarking on their journey, Miriakamba hut at 2500m serves as their first stop. Nestled within Arusha National Park, it provides shelter and respite before they continue their ascent towards the summit. A Jain cosmological map from the 19th century caught my eye, depicting Mount Meru as the center of the universe. This ancient belief resonates with the awe-inspiring presence of this mountain that seems to connect heaven and earth. Outside Hsinbyume Pagoda, modeled after descriptions of Mount Meru's splendor, a woman stood in admiration. The pagoda's intricate architecture mirrored the beauty that surrounds it - an ode to nature's magnificence. From the Shira Plateau below Kilimanjaro's Uhuru Peak, I looked towards Mount Meru. Its towering presence dominated my view as if inviting me to explore its mysteries hidden within its peaks and valleys. Sketches from Equatorial Africa captured moments when explorers encountered Mount Meru for themselves. Engravings depicted adventurers venturing into uncharted territories where clouds embraced them while they marveled at this natural marvel. The Hindu concept of the universe illustrated around 1880 showcased Mount Meru prominently among celestial realms. It served as a reminder that this mountain holds significance beyond geographical boundaries - it embodies spiritual connections too. En route to Arusha lay Tanganyika - a land blessed by proximity to Mount Meru. A Sunday beer party brought locals together under its watchful gaze; distant views revealed glimpses of its majesty while closer encounters left one awestruck by its sheer size and beauty.
