Niccolo da Corte was a renowned artist from Genoa, known for his remarkable contributions to the interior of the Duomo, specifically the Cybo chapel located in the northern arm of the transept. One of his notable works is the Funerary Monument of Archbishop Giuliano Cybo. This magnificent monument features several panels adorned with biblical scenes, such as "The beheading of the Baptist" and "The Conversion of Saul, " skillfully crafted by Giangiacomo and Guglielmo Della Porta. These intricate depictions transport viewers into these significant moments from scripture. Additionally, Niccolo da Corte's collaboration with Giangiacomo and Guglielmo Della Porta resulted in awe-inspiring statues that adorn this funerary monument. From left to right, we witness Abraham standing prominently in the foreground, followed by St Jerome and St Peter. Each statue exudes a sense of reverence and devotion. Further along this artistic masterpiece are additional statues created by Giangiacomo and Guglielmo Della Porta. Here we find St John the Baptist alongside Moses, both capturing their iconic presence through meticulous craftsmanship. Atop it all sits an ethereal depiction of Jesus Christ enthroned between Saint Peter on His left and Saint Paul on His right—a symbolically powerful representation that encapsulates divine authority within this sacred space. Lastly, panels featuring scenes like "St Jerome in the Desert" and "Moses receives tables of Law" add depth to this already mesmerizing ensemble—each scene meticulously brought to life through Niccolo da Corte's artistic vision. Niccolo da Corte's contributions to Genoa's Duomo are nothing short of extraordinary. Through his collaboration with esteemed sculptors Giangiacomo and Guglielmo Della Porta, he has immortalized biblical narratives within this sacred space—inviting visitors into a world of faith, beauty, and contemplation.
