"Old Will: A Journey through Biblical Tales and Ancient Legends" Step into the world of ancient stories and biblical legends with "Old Will, " a captivating painting by Anne Louis Girodet de Roucy-Trioson. This 19th-century masterpiece, rendered in oil on canvas, transports us to a deluge scene that evokes both awe and wonder. As we delve deeper into this artistic narrative, our eyes are drawn to "The Brazen Snake. " Inspired by the book of Exodus, this intriguing depiction reminds us of the miraculous healing power bestowed upon those who gazed upon it. Moving forward in time, we encounter the tale of Gideon. Chosen by God to defeat the Madianites, he handpicks his soldiers based on their unique drinking technique. Only those who raised water to their mouths while remaining vigilant were deemed worthy for battle. Moses also plays a significant role in Old Will's collection. In one engraving from Lahure's Holy History series, Moses orders the people of Israel to recognize Joshua as his successor. The passing of authority is symbolized through this powerful image. We witness Moses and Aaron visiting Pharaoh in another engraving from Holy History. Their mission was fraught with tension as they demanded freedom for their people amidst plagues and divine intervention. A haunting representation emerges next – The Witch of Endor or Pythonisse of Endor summons the ghost of Prophet Samuel at Saul's request using her talismanic powers. This Canaanite village mentioned in Samuel's first book adds an element of mysticism to Old Will's diverse tapestry. Samuel warns against having a king in yet another engraving from Lahure's 19th-century Private Collection. His prophetic words echo through time as he cautions Israelites about potential dangers associated with monarchy. Ehud takes center stage next as we witness his audacious assassination plot against Moabite King Eglon.
