"From Handmade to High-Tech: A Journey Through the Paper Mill" Step back in time to witness the art of papermaking as it was done by hand, with skilled artisans sieving pulp in forms. This c1870 engraving captures the meticulous process that brought paper to life. In another glimpse into history, we see the bleaching of rag pulp, an essential step in creating pristine sheets of paper. The c1870 engraving showcases this crucial technique that ensured quality and purity. Fast forward to April 22nd, 1954, at Newark Mill in Pyrford, Surrey. Here, amidst picturesque surroundings, a bustling paper mill operates tirelessly. It stands as a testament to human ingenuity and industry's progress over time. Traveling across continents and years brings us to Lufkin, Texas in 1943. Witness the birth of Southland Paper Co. 's Kraft pulp mill under construction through John Vachon's lens. This ambitious project would soon contribute significantly to newsprint production. Continuing our exploration of Southland Paper mill in Lufkin is another captivating image from 1943 captured by John Vachon himself. Here we see Kraft (chemical) pulp being utilized for newsprint production—a vital component shaping information dissemination during wartime. Language knows no boundaries when it comes to describing a "paper-mill.
