Paracelsus, born Theophrastus Philippus Aureolus Bombastus von Hohenheim in 1493, was a renowned Swiss physician, alchemist, and astrologer. His contributions to the field of medicine during the 16th century continue to be celebrated today. In an intriguing artwork from 1554 titled "Family in a sauna, " we catch a glimpse of Paracelsus' era. This piece offers us a window into the daily lives of people during that time. Another representation can be found in Joseph Goldberg's bust from around 1938. This sculpture captures his likeness and serves as a reminder of his lasting impact on medical science. An engraving simply titled "Paracelse" showcases him surrounded by symbols associated with alchemy and astrology – two fields he greatly influenced throughout his career. A similar engraving presents Paracelsus once again, highlighting his significant role as both physician and alchemist. Pieter Soutman's portrait from 1615-43 provides another perspective on this influential figure. It depicts Paracelsus with great detail, showcasing his intelligence and wisdom. One image shows Paracelsus at Basle, perhaps reflecting upon his groundbreaking work while residing there. Another portrays him as a secretary – an occupation that may have allowed him to further disseminate his knowledge. Lastly, an unknown artist's depiction from 1830 encapsulates the enduring fascination surrounding Paracelsus even centuries after his death. His legacy continues to captivate scholars and enthusiasts alike.
