The Peredvizhniki Group, also known as the Wanderers or Itinerants, was a prominent Russian artistic movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This group of artists sought to break away from the traditional academic style and bring art closer to the people. One of their notable works is "The Night before the Exam" painted in 1935 by an unknown artist. This oil on canvas painting depicts students anxiously preparing for their exams, capturing the universal feeling of anticipation and nervousness that many can relate to. Another captivating piece within this collection is "Portrait of Mikhail Glinka at the time of his composition of the opera Ruslan. " This lithograph showcases Glinka, one of Russia's most celebrated composers, during a significant period in his career. The sepia photo technique used adds depth and character to this portrayal. In contrast to these musical figures stands Leo Tolstoy, depicted in a sepia-toned photograph. The renowned writer's intense gaze reflects his deep introspection and intellectual prowess captured through this medium. Natalia Petrunkevitsin's portrait from 1893 reveals her delicate features with remarkable attention to detail. The artist skillfully captures her essence through brushstrokes that convey both beauty and vulnerability. "The Writer Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy ploughing with horses" portrays another side of Leo Tolstoy - not as an author but as a man connected with nature. Painted in 1889 using oil on canvas technique, it shows him engaged in manual labor while contemplating life's deeper questions. Alekandr Konstantinovich Glazunov, a composer whose talent graced Russia during its golden age of music-making, is portrayed through chalk drawing techniques employed in "Portrait of Composer Alekandr Konstantinovich Glazunov (1865-1936)" created in 1906.
