"Perruque: A Glimpse into the Glamorous Past" Step back in time and immerse yourself in the opulence of centuries gone by with these captivating portraits. From the regal full-length portrait of King Louis XIV, exuding power and grandeur, to the elegant depiction of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, showcasing his noble spirit - each painting tells a unique story. Transporting us to the 18th century, we encounter a lady of nobility seated on a chair adorned with porters receiving her kiss hand. The intricate details captured in this 1895 illustration offer a glimpse into aristocratic customs and rituals that defined an era. Engravings bring historical figures to life as we witness Guillaume-Francois Joly de Fleury's dignified presence and Rene Antoine Ferchault de Reaumur's intellectual prowess. Nicolas Boileau Despreaux's engraving showcases his literary genius while evoking admiration for his contributions to French literature. The portrait of Louis Antoine Henri de Bourbon-Conde takes us on a hunting expedition through its depiction of him wearing the belly-of-doe hunting livery from the House of Conde. Painted by Charles Rauch in 1836, this masterpiece captures both elegance and strength. John Law's portrait reminds us of his controversial role as a Scottish financier responsible for France's bankruptcy in 1720. Casimir Balthazar skillfully portrays Law's enigmatic persona through oil on canvas, offering insight into one of history's most infamous financial crises. Delving deeper into memoirs, Perrine Vigger Du Vigneau immortalizes Louis de Rouvroy, Duke of Saint Simon - providing an intimate glimpse into his life as a memorialist during the late 17th century. This painting serves as both artistry and historical documentation.
