"Picking: A Collection of Artistic Expressions" In Springs Promise, Marjorie Miller captures the delicate essence of nature's rebirth, as vibrant blossoms are carefully picked to adorn our lives. The Coming of Spring, 1899, by Edward Atkinson Hornel transports us to a time when picking flowers was an art form that celebrated the awakening beauty of the season. Homeward by Muriel Dawson portrays a scene where weary hands pick their way through life's challenges, guided by an unwavering determination to find solace and peace. Amidst the excitement of a Rugby match between South Africa and Somerset, players strategically pick their moves in pursuit of victory on the field. A Memory of a Hop Field by F. C. Twort takes us back in time to witness laborers diligently picking hops under the golden sun, preserving traditions that have shaped communities for generations. In The Apple Gatherers from 1880, we see how families come together during harvest season to handpick ripe fruits with care and gratitude for nature's bountiful offerings. During the 1921 strike in South Wales, amidst turmoil and hardship, resilient individuals resorted to picking coal from waste tips as they fought for their rights and livelihoods. Italy comes alive in Desdemona - Othello and Iago; Verdi's masterpiece Otello inspires emotions that artists skillfully pick apart through captivating illustrations. Hop Picking in Kent - Boughton District showcases how this age-old tradition brings people together as they meticulously select only the finest hops destined for brewing perfection. Frescoes adorning Coit Tower in San Francisco stand tall as testaments to artistic brilliance picked from diverse cultures across America—a symbol of unity through creativity. Wind Blown by Muriel Dawson depicts ethereal figures gracefully picking up momentum against gusty winds—an allegory for resilience even when faced with adversity.
