Prince James Francis Edward Stewart, also known as the Old Pretender, was a prominent figure in European history during the 17th and 18th centuries. Born in 1688, he was the son of King James II of England and Ireland. Despite being exiled from his homeland due to political turmoil, Prince James remained determined to reclaim his family's throne. Throughout his life, Prince James faced numerous challenges and setbacks. The Le Feste des Trois Rois painting by Romeyn de Hooghe depicts a festive celebration that may have reminded him of happier times before his exile. Another artwork by the same artist titled L Europe Allarmee reflects the turbulent state of affairs across Europe during this period. The Flight of Queen Mary from Illustrated London News showcases one of the pivotal moments in Prince James' life when his mother fled England with him after William III took over the throne. This event marked a turning point for both their lives and set them on a path filled with uncertainty.
