"The Reliquia: A Glimpse into the Sacred History of Genoa" In the heart of Genoa lies a treasure trove of religious artifacts, and among them, stands the magnificent Ark of the relics of St. John the Baptist. This awe-inspiring masterpiece can be found in the St. Lawrence Cathedral's chapel dedicated to St. John himself. Crafted between 1438 and 1445 by Teramo Danieli and Simone Caldera, this processional Ark was commissioned by the Priors Chapel and is made entirely out of embossed silver castings. Its intricate design showcases scenes from St. John's life, including his beheading, preaching, and even Herodias receiving his head. As you enter this sacred space, your eyes are drawn to another remarkable fresco depicting "The Arrival of St. John's Baptists ashes" in the Cybo chapel within the transept's northern arm. Painted in 1910, it captures a significant moment in history when these precious remains arrived at their final resting place. But it is within the Museum of Treasury that one truly comprehends The Reliquia's significance as they encounter not just one but three identical Arks housing St. John's relics – an extraordinary testament to their importance for Genoese spirituality. Commissioned once again by Priors Chapel during its construction phase between 1438-1445, these Arks were meticulously crafted using embossed silver castings under Teramo Danieli and Simone Caldera’s skilled hands. The arrival of another relic takes us on a journey beyond Genoa - Ancona welcomes with open arms "The Arrival of St Andrew. " In vibrant frescoes dating back to after 1662, we witness episodes from Saint Andrew's life unfold before our eyes—an homage paid through artistry that transcends time itself. These relics hold immense historical value for both locals and visitors alike.
