"The Wild Bunch: Notorious American Outlaws and Masterful Bank Robbers" Step into the thrilling world of The Wild Bunch, a gang of audacious American outlaws who terrorized the West in 1901. Led by the infamous Butch Cassidy, this daring group specialized in robbing banks and trains, leaving a trail of chaos in their wake. In one captivating scene captured by artist Charles M. Russell, we witness a stage robber pointing his shotgun with an air of danger. A vignette on the side reveals him clutching a treasure box while standing over a fallen messenger as the stagecoach speeds away – a testament to his cunning tactics. Crime was not limited to land; even Victorian society had its share of pickpockets lurking among unsuspecting crowds. As depicted in an intriguing greeting card from that era, these nimble-fingered thieves skillfully relieved their victims of their valuables without detection. The world of crime extended beyond simple thefts; resurrectionists were individuals who dug up corpses for medical purposes during times when acquiring bodies legally was challenging. This macabre practice sheds light on the desperate lengths some would go to fulfill demand. Not all robbers operated alone; Dick Turpin's treachery knew no bounds as he ruthlessly shot fellow highwayman Tom King. This shocking act reminds us that loyalty is often scarce within criminal circles. Even renowned artists like Pieter Bruegel the Elder recognized society's darker elements through his painting "Misanthrope" in 1568. It serves as a stark reminder that throughout history, there have always been those who choose malevolence over compassion. Robbery wasn't confined to everyday citizens either; even tombs belonging to nobility were targeted by brazen thieves seeking riches at any cost. The Earl of Crawford fell victim to such desecration in 1881, highlighting how no one was truly safe from these audacious criminals.
