From the Rough Riders to the Peace Table: A Glimpse into the Life of Theodore Roosevelt This collection showcases various depictions of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, from his military career during the Spanish-American War to his role as a peacemaker at the Portsmouth Peace Conference in 1905. Beginning with the aftermath of the Rough Riders Battle in the Spanish-American War, we see Roosevelt in military uniform, surrounded by his comrades. The following images capture his peaceful side, as he negotiated an end to the Russo-Japanese War alongside other world leaders, including Baron Komura and Kogoro Tamon, at the Portsmouth Peace Conference. Roosevelt's personal life is also represented here, with portraits of him and his wife, Edith Kermit Carow. A postcard celebrates the signing of the Portsmouth Peace Treaty, and a medal bearing his likeness commemorates his presidency. A unique item in this collection is a nautical clock gifted from Roosevelt to William L. Houston. The final image shows Roosevelt delivering his first speech after his election in 1904.
