"Rudolf: A Multifaceted Name with a Rich History" NUREYEV, Rudolf: The legendary ballet dancer who defected from the Soviet Union in 1961 and became one of the greatest male dancers of his time. Archduke Rudolf of Austria: He was the only son of Emperor Franz Joseph I and heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire but tragically died in an apparent suicide pact with his mistress Mary Vetsera at Mayerling in 1889. Kepler with Rudolf II: Johannes Kepler, renowned astronomer, worked as mathematician and astrologer for Emperor Rudolf II during the late 16th century.
