The Russian Revolution of 1905 was a pivotal moment in history, marked by intense protests and violent clashes between the people and the ruling regime. One notable event that captured international attention was the St. Petersburg riots, where Pope Gapone led a group of rioters against the authorities. This incident was depicted in "Le Peute Parisien" on May 2nd, 1905. Another significant occurrence during this revolution was Father Gapon's demonstration in Russia. A lithograph from that time showcases his influential role in mobilizing the masses for change. One of the most infamous incidents associated with this revolution is known as Bloody Sunday, which occurred on January 22nd, 1905. An oil painting created twenty years later captures the brutality and chaos that unfolded on that fateful day. The events of Bloody Sunday were widely covered by media outlets around the world; one such example is Le Petit Parisien's front cover illustration depicting scenes from that tragic day. Vladimir Makovsky's study for his painting also focuses on Bloody Sunday, offering a glimpse into its impact through an artist's perspective. Satirical magazines like L'Assiette au Beurre played a crucial role in reflecting public sentiment during this period. Several issues published between 1905-1908 featured illustrations criticizing various aspects of society and government actions related to these revolutionary events. Red Sunday (Bloody Sunday) further highlighted military repression during demonstrations in St. Petersburg when Tsar Nicholas II's cavalry charged against peaceful protestors who had gathered to voice their grievances.
