Sandro Botticelli, born Alessandro di Mariano dei Filipepi, was a renowned Italian painter of the Early Renaissance period. His works are characterized by their delicate beauty and intricate details. One of his most famous paintings is "La naissance de Venus" or "The Birth of Venus, " created between 1482 and 1485. In this masterpiece, Venus receives a robe from the goddess of spring to cover her nudity while being embraced by Zephyr, the god of wind, carrying a nymph in his arms. Another notable artwork by Botticelli is "The Dead Christ Mourned, " painted around 1501-05. This piece showcases his mastery in using tempera grassa on panel to depict the sorrowful scene surrounding Jesus' death. "The Birth of Venus" is another captivating painting that highlights Botticelli's talent with tempera on canvas. Created around 1485, it portrays Venus rising from the water on a shell surrounded by Hour, the goddess of spring, who covers her nakedness with a mantle. Zephyr can also be seen accompanying them along with the nymph Aura. Botticelli's religious-themed artworks include "The Virgin Adoring the Child" (1480-90) and "Madonna and Child with Angels" (1465-70). These pieces showcase his ability to capture tender moments between mother and child through his use of tempera on poplar panel. In addition to these masterpieces, Botticelli contributed to frescoes in Vatican Sistine Chapel depicting scenes from Moses' life. The details he portrayed included an Egyptian under Moses' sword as well as Hebrew man being rescued by a woman from an Egyptian man's grasp. Another detail shows Moses putting on shoes on his feet. One more significant work worth mentioning is "Madonna del Magnificat, " completed between 1481-83.
