In February 1934, renowned American writer Ernest Hemingway embarked on a hunting expedition in this very savanna. As he ventured through Mount Kenya and Lewa Downs, he was greeted by an awe-inspiring sight - a majestic herd of elephants gracefully roaming across the plains. Their sheer size and gentle demeanor left him in absolute wonder. As Hemingway continued his journey, he stumbled upon a mesmerizing scene - a Maasai warrior standing tall beneath the shade of a flat-topped acacia tree with Mount Kenya as his backdrop. Further exploration led Hemingway to witness another spectacle - an entire family of lions basking lazily under the golden African sun.
