"Sentenced to Death: A Glimpse into the Martyrdoms of History" Step back in time and witness the haunting brushstrokes that depict humanity's darkest moments. "Daniel's Answer to the King, " a mesmerizing oil painting from 1890, captures the anguish of those condemned to death. Similarly, "The martyrdom of Saint Stephen, " an etching dating back to 1635, portrays the courage and sacrifice of a faithful soul. Travel further through history with Eugene Sergent's engraving for "L'Armee de la Loire. " This 19th-century artwork delves into themes of persecution and suffering. Meanwhile, "Martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria" showcases a vivid oil on canvas masterpiece from 1605-06, illustrating one woman's unwavering faith even in her final moments. Delve into Roman antiquity with Franco Mistrali's drawing from "Misteri del Vaticano. " Here we find ourselves amidst Christian martyrs facing their fate in the unforgiving amphitheater. The penance endured by Raymond VI, Count of Toulouse, is depicted in another striking piece - an excommunication by Pope Innocent III for his alleged involvement with assassinations. Intricate details come alive within a tempera on panel artwork titled "Crucifixion" circa 1500-05. Its portrayal evokes emotions as we witness Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. Post-1640 comes an oil on canvas masterpiece depicting the tragic end met by John the Baptist – his martyrdom forever immortalized. St Sebastian stands tall as an emblematic figure in art history; this stunning oil-on-panel creation dates back to 1480-90. Equally captivating is St Cecilia’s story told through delicate strokes upon wood around 1300 – her life intertwined with music and devotion. As our journey nears its end, we encounter the engraving of Lady Jane Grey's execution in 1554.
