"Shear: A Testament to Sheffield's Industrial Legacy" Step back in time to the bustling streets of Sheffield, circa 1900. The city was alive with the sound of trades unionists and their dedication to craftsmanship. Amongst them stood the Trades Unionists Sheep Shear Co-operative Society steel sheep shears at Brunswick Works on Eldon Street, a symbol of unity and quality. Not far away, Ball Brothers and Co proudly showcased their solid steel sheep shears at Globe Works on Penistone Road. These durable tools were a testament to their commitment to excellence in manufacturing. Meanwhile, Robert Sorby and Sons, edge tool manufacturers on Carver Street since 1889, continued their legacy of crafting precision instruments for skilled artisans. Their reputation as masters of their trade was unmatched. In this era where draped nudes adorned art studios across Europe, Sheffield's industrial prowess extended beyond just metalwork. Transland Ag-2 N8330H and N8831H planes soared through the skies above Steel City – a reminder that innovation knew no bounds. Armstrong Whitworth crane loomed tall over the cityscape; its strength mirrored that of Sheffield's hardworking residents who built it with pride. Yet amidst all these grand achievements, everyday life carried on. In Copper Street during 1796, John Dearden's working tools went up for sale alongside scissorsmithing equipment and household furniture – a glimpse into the lives behind these remarkable creations. La Plata Works held a special dinner in honor of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. A souvenir menu from this event serves as a memento capturing both celebration and gratitude towards an iconic monarch who reigned over an era marked by progress. Motor cars lined up outside Burgon and Balls La Plata Works – symbols of modernity intertwining with traditional craftsmanship as technology advanced hand-in-hand with tradition.
