1. Boris Vasilievich Smirnov (1904): A Multifaceted Life in Siberia Born in Irkutsk, Boris Vasilievich Smirnov's life was as diverse as Siberia itself. As a pupil at the city school, he captured the innocence of childhood. Later, he became a merchant, selling beautiful merchandise in the Theater of Wandering Artists near the Moscow Gates. His teaching career began at the municipal school, shaping young minds. Boris was also an Old Believer, a migrant from New Russia, and an exiled Tolstoyan, reflecting his deep spirituality and commitment to social causes. Nobility was in his blood, as evidenced by his title as a Knight of the Order of Saint Stanislaus. Boris's art took him through the Great Siberian Road in the Krugobaikal Mountains, where he sketched the breathtaking landscapes. He was a Krasnoyarsk Cossack, a proud warrior spirit, and an old migrant from Ukraine, carrying the weight of history in his heart. Boris's memories of the deportation of political exiles to Siberia in a prison wagon are a poignant testament to the human spirit's resilience. Through his art, Boris Vasilievich Smirnov immortalized the people and landscapes of Siberia, leaving us with a rich and vivid portrait of a unique region and its inhabitants.
