"Soga no Gorô Tokimune: A Tale of Revenge and Tragedy in Japanese Theater" Soga no Gorô Tokimune, a popular character in Japanese theater, has been portrayed by numerous actors throughout history. In this captivating series of images created by renowned artists such as Ishikawa Toyonobu, Torii Kiyonobu II, and Torii Kiyomitsu, we witness the evolution of this iconic role. Onoe Kikugoro and Ichimura Kamezo bring Soga no Gorô to life in 1744 with their powerful performances. The intensity continues with Ichikawa Ebizo II as Musashibo Benkei alongside Sakata Shintaro as Soga no Gorô in another rendition from the same year. Otani Oniji I takes on the role of Soga no Gorô while Sanogawa Ichimatsu I portrays Yoshina's sister in a striking portrayal from 1746. Meanwhile, Ichikawa Danjuro II captivates audiences with his performance as Soga no Gorô in "Soga Koyomi Biraki" during 1723. In 1735, Torii Kiyonobu II captures our attention once again with his depiction of Ichikawa Danjuro II as Onio Shinzaemon and Ichikawa Masugoro as Soga no Gorô. The drama unfolds further when Ichimura Kamezo I embodies the character in "Hatsugoyomi Kotobuki Soga" around 1745. Torii Kiyonaga's artwork showcases yet another memorable portrayal by Ichikawa Monnosuke II as Soga no Gorô and Segawa Kikunojo III as Tsukisayo circa 1782. Similarly, Torii Kiyomasu presents us with Sanogawa Ichimatsu I playing opposite Ikushima Daikichi II as Kewaizaka no S in 1748.
