The Sportscar World Championship, also known as the FIA World Endurance Championship and the World Sports Car Championship, has seen some legendary moments throughout its history. One such moment was in 1989 when Stefan Bellof and Thierry Boutsen of Brun Motorsport Porsche dominated the championship with their impressive performance in the Porsche 956. As we delve into the 1980s, Sutton Images Grand Prix Decades takes us back to 1989, a year that witnessed thrilling races and fierce competition. The Sportscar World Championship was at its peak during this time, attracting top-notch drivers from around the globe. Jacky Ickx became synonymous with success in this championship as he piloted his Porsche to victory multiple times. His skill behind the wheel made him a force to be reckoned with on every track. Fast forward to October 18th, 1992 - it was an exhilarating day at Magny-Cours in France for round two of the Sportscar World Championship. The atmosphere was electric as spectators eagerly awaited another display of speed and precision from their favorite drivers. Donington Park Circuit came alive on July 19th, 1992 for round four of this prestigious championship. Drivers pushed themselves to their limits on this historic circuit in England, leaving fans breathless with each lap they completed. But it all began on April 26th, 1992 at Monza Circuit in Italy for round one of the Sportscar World Championship. The roar of engines filled the air as cars zoomed past each other at incredible speeds. It was a sight to behold. The FIA World Endurance Championship brought together talented drivers from various backgrounds who shared one common goal – victory. With each race pushing them closer to glory, these athletes showcased not only their skills but also their determination and passion for motorsports. The Sportscar World Championship has left an indelible mark on racing history through its thrilling races, iconic drivers, and unforgettable moments.
