Once upon a time in the land of thrift, there lived a classic Tight Scotsman, lured by six enchanting beauties, reminiscent of the Misers Feast in 1786. His avarice, as depicted in A Chromolitho, was a sight to behold. With boots and shoes piled outside his hotel room on a comic postcard from the 20th century, Hettie Green's silver gelatin print of a miserly woman held a mirror to his soul. Clutching a wad of dollar bills in his hand, he was the embodiment of the Illustration for Le Rire's comic misers. The Stingy Traveller's oil on canvas painting echoed his frugal ways. Even in WW2, a comic postcard depicted a regretful stingy librarian, while an elderly lady's stinginess with her tipping was a reminder that some things never change.
