"Stumbling through Time: A Journey of Mishaps and Misfortunes" In this captivating collection of images, we witness the universal human experience of stumbling, both literally and metaphorically. From a Mutoscope postcard depicting a laden girl in a spot of bother to Pierrot fleeing from an unexpected hare, these snapshots capture moments when life takes an unexpected turn. The journey begins with "Christ Carrying the Cross, " a mysterious artwork from 1490 that shows even the divine can stumble under the weight of their burdens. Moving forward to the 1800s, we encounter "Untitled, The Plaster Figure Sellers Accident, " where chaos ensues as figures topple over each other in comedic fashion. Fast forward to 1872-85, where Plate 272 showcases individuals stumbling and falling on the ground. This collotype on paper captures not only physical stumbles but also hints at emotional struggles faced by humanity throughout history. "The Triumphant Britons, " published in 1780 by Hannah Humphrey, offers a humorous take on stumbling as it portrays characters engaged in riotous behavior. Meanwhile, "The Blinding of Elymas" reveals how one's arrogance can lead to their downfall before restoration efforts were undertaken. Venturing further back into time with "Vari Capricci" before 1750 brings us face-to-face with etchings that depict various scenes involving stumbling individuals. These artworks remind us that missteps have always been part of our shared human narrative. "He and His Drunken Companions Raise a Riot in Covent Garden" appears twice within this collection - once as an engraving from 1735 and later as a color lithograph portraying blindman's buff game. Both instances highlight how intoxication or blindness can contribute to stumbling through life's challenges. Lastly, we encounter "Negro Man Being Kicked Down Stairs Christmas Card.
