The Philippine Tarsier, scientifically known as Tarsius syrichta, is a fascinating creature found in the dense secondary tropical rainforests of Bohol, Philippines. As the smallest monkey in the world, this tiny primate captures our attention with its unique characteristics and behaviors. One captivating image shows an adult Philippine Tarsier perched on a branch, about to devour a Giant Malaysian Click Beetle. This beetle happens to be one of its favorite prey items. With its large round eyes fixed on the beetle, it showcases its incredible hunting skills in this snapshot captured near the Philippine Tarsier Foundation Incorporated (PTFI). During daytime hours, these nocturnal creatures hide and rest on their designated "perching sites" amidst the undergrowth of their typical habitat within the dense rainforest near PTFI. Their ability to blend seamlessly into their surroundings is truly remarkable. Another species that shares similarities with the Philippine Tarsier is Horsfields tarsier or Western tarsier (Tarsius bancanus). An adult specimen of this species can be seen lurking in the forest understorey at night. Its wide-eyed gaze hints at both curiosity and caution as it navigates through its natural environment. Belitung Island serves as home for another variation called Horsfields tarsier / Western tarsier (Tarsius bancanus ssp. Saltator). Here we witness how these agile creatures adapt to their surroundings by leaping effortlessly from tree to tree. Intriguingly adorable is a baby Philippine Tarsier spotted high up in a tree canopy. Its small size and delicate features make it irresistible to behold. The future holds great promise for this young individual as it grows into adulthood. Venturing beyond Bohol, North Sulawesi introduces us to Gursky's spectral tarsierr (Tarisus spectrumgurskyae), showcasing yet another mesmerizing member of this primate family.
